We are very pleased to announce the first solo exhibition of the artist Ariel Hassan in our Vienna gallery. Ttitled And the World Will Naturally Settle, Hassan will show paintings, drawings, and sculptures, in which set pieces of the post-colonial, post-digital, and post-discursive world collide with full force and create a new, visual universe.

Ariel Hassan was born in Argentina in 1977 and has lived alternately in Berlin and Adelaide, Australia, for the past ten years. It is no coincidence that his visual worlds are reminiscent of meteorite and asteroid storms, space artifacts and big bang fantasies. He draws on existing raw material from art history, the colonial past, and the digital present, and studies it, deconstructs it, patiently exposes it, and assembles it into new, tumultuously swirling, chaotically shattering pictorial motifs that nevertheless seem to rest within themselves and strive for beauty.

Hassan’s ambiguous works articulate the complexity, superimposition paradigm, and “layering” of our world by contrasting physical fluidity with mental liquidity. The longing for certainty meets the reality of uncertainty. Visual experiences emerge in which chaos is perceived as an endless source, consolidating into new clarity.

Ariel Hassan’s work has been shown in numerous international solo and group exhibitions, including the Kochi-Muziris Biennale in Kerala, India; the Museum of Contemporary Art in Sydney, Australia; World Expo Shanghai, China; the Cairo Biennale, Egypt; Aura Gallery in Beijing, China; Palazzo Bembo in Venice, Italy; and the Carroll/Fletcher Gallery in London, United Kingdom. With And the World Will Naturally Settle Galerie Crone presents Ariel Hassan for the first time in German-speaking countries.
